Black Bayou, Noah Tyson Park, Louisiana Kayak Paddle Trip

This paddle map is in ‘Black Bayou’ and located in northwest Louisiana. Surprisingly it’s only about half an hour away from the Caddo 805 WMA launch in Texas and worth the drive. The best put-in for paddling the bayou is at Noah Tyson Park on Mira Myrtis Road. From there you can paddle up to the Highway 1 bridge, or down to the Black Bayou Lake itself. The main channel is an easy paddle and is very pretty. If the water is high and not overgrown with salvinia there are a lot of lakes and submerged forests that can be explored to each side. The bayou is not used as much by paddlers compared to the Caddo area, but is just as nice, as the pictures show. I tried several options to go further past Highway 1 but things got shallow and not much progress was possible.
