Bodcau Bayou E, above Dam, Louisiana, Kayak Paddle Trip

The map above describes some exploratory paddles into the lake area above Bodcau Dam, Louisiana. They were done on the same day, the idea being go out in a particular direction, then get back to the launch, then pick another direction, and so on. Just to give some sense of how the place is organized. The paddle is beautiful when you first get out of sight of the launch, and there is a labeled paddle trail that follows one of the wider corridors (blue). However, a lot of this region is tangled and confusing. The above trails are approximations where I tried some out and backs to the sides (yellow and red), and a big circle (purple). Sometimes you find yourself knotted up in the vines and brush, and other times you are in beautiful open clearings. Curious area. See where you can go, see if you can get back.

Above: Going through the tangles is work, the vines are surprisingly tough.

Above: But other areas are beautiful.

Above: Just after launching you are in this area!

Above: Yikes!
