Bodcau Bayou G , above Dam

Another foray into the lake above Bodcau Dam, east of Shreveport Louisiana. It was a blistering hot afternoon, mid summer. By satellite map it looks as if there were some clear channels to the northeast and I wondered if I could paddle the boat up to those areas, or even to an open stretch of bayou. But not this time. The pictures below give a pretty good idea of the kayaking challenge. Things started out good but ended up as a crash through the brush. The map shows part of the route as dot dot dot, which means I kind of knew the direction I wanted but there was nothing direct that got you there, it’s a plow, pushing and shoving. On the positive side however, and perhaps counterintuitively, the confusion and jumble actually makes this area kind of interesting, and repeatable. Each time you can see what routes can be paddled, where you can go, where you can’t. Also, the lake can be circled by car using Cotton Valley Road on the east side and Duck Dam Road on the west; it’s a great drive.

Above: Good so far. Hot afternoon, jug of water.

Above: This is fun to paddle in, can pick to go anywhere.

Above: Uh oh.

Above: This pretty much shows it.
