Bodcau Bayou D, Hwy 160 to Wenks, Louisiana, Kayak Paddle Trip

A paddle trail in Bodcau Bayou of Louisiana, starting at the Highway 160 put-in and turning around at Wenk’s Landing. One could go the other direction, from Wenk’s, making it a down and back, but going against the current first and going with it later is preferable. A pretty paddle, nice scenery, no real confusion as to the channel, straightforward. I thought it would be completely isolated but some guys were swimming near at the southeast corner of the large light green blotch on the map, where the trail goes west to east. We were all surprised to see each other. There is a small lake to the west side of the route but I couldn’t find my way in so that had to be discarded from the plan.

Above: Large stand of trees at the Tom Merrill campsite.

Above: A few sections had some overhanging limbs to slide through.

Above: A bit of current, not bad.
