Caddo F 805 WMA Launch

A Caddo kayak paddle map route starting, as usual, at the 805 WMA launch After a while there is a certain amount of repetition to Caddo paddles, and so this route goes over some of the same areas as some earlier trips. It first goes through Back Lake and out Whistleberry Slough into Clinton Lake and back again through Carter’s Chute. And then out Smith’s Slough to the Big Cypress Bayou and back through the Canal towards the launch site. Perfect day. I once had to portage, which really means drag the boat by hand in the woods, across the east-most end of Goat Island. The reason was I got really disoriented in Back Lake but I knew that going straight north would get me back to Carter’s Chute. Wasn’t easy, there were several water filled ravines that had to be crossed, trickier than I thought. But this trip was easy enough. Although you have to watch for powerboats in Smith Slough.

Above: A short portage was needed at location shown on map. When the water is high you can paddle through this area.

Above: Wow.

Above: Incredible, feels like going back in time.

Above: Taking a break along the shore.
