Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, Big Mineral Creek Kayak Paddle
Kayak route map in the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, about 20 minutes west of Sherman TX on Highway 82. It’s a popular birding location and there are some boat launches for paddling and fishing. The boat launch on Pad L was used for this trip. The water this time was too shallow going north out to the lake and the boat got stuck. The other way, up Big Mineral Creek, was better, and that’s what the map above shows. Hagerman seems different every time and there’s a lot of season to season variation. This trip there were three deer crossing the lake (see picture) and scenery in the early morning light was nice.
