Hagerman NWR, Lake Texoma, Sandy Creek

Hagerman NWR, an hour or so north of Dallas, is a great place to kayak and paddle; every time it seems a bit different, with something new to see. This trip started at the L Pad launch on the west side of the Refuge, went out to the east side, hugged the shore going north to reach a small island of unknown name. That was the turnaround, and the route comes back along the west shore and explores a bit of Sandy Creek. I did skip a Brushy Creek exploration this time because some guys were hunting there. There can be wind from the south coming back to the refuge (see picture below), and this can make it splashy and a bit of work to paddle. But great trip; some other time I will see if I can get farther out to Lake Texoma.
