Hugo WMA, Kiamichi River, Rattan Landing, Oklahoma B

Another route in the Hugo WMA area in Oklahoma. This one launches at Rattan Landing, which is a Corp of Engineers facility on the Kiamichi River off Highway 3, and requires either a pass or 5 bucks. You can also make a reservation to camp here and it’s a nice place for that. The route goes south on the Kiamichi River but then splits into an old oxbow and splits again into a little creek going east. Even though the water was reasonably high I could only take this creek so far (see picture below). After that I had to pull the boat across a long open field and let it drop down a steep bank into the river, then get in. Was some work. Coming north back around on the Kiamichi River I made a couple of detours, one of which went down a tiny channel into an internal lake, very very nice. Good trip.
