Hugo WMA, Kiamichi River, Rattan Landing, Oklahoma B
Kayak paddle trail map in the Hugo WMA area of southern Oklahoma. This trip launches at Rattan Landing, a Corps of Engineers facility on the Kiamichi River off Highway 3, and requires either a pass or 5 bucks. It’s a good place to camp as well. The route goes south on the Kiamichi River but then splits into an old river oxbow and the branches into a little creek going east. Even though the water was fairly high this creek could only be paddled so far. After that it was necessary to pull the boat across a long open field and drop it down a steep bank into the Kiamichi. A couple of detours were made on the way back, one of which went down a twisty channel into an internal lake.
