Loggy Bayou WMA Kayak Trip

Kayak paddle route trail map in the Loggy Bayou WMA, just below the dam at Lake Bistineau. The launch for Loggy Bayou is at the end of Poole Road off of Highway 71. I tried another access to the launch from the north side but that road was private or blocked off. So I rerouted via Poole Road. To access the area you use Louisiana two permit system, an annual WMA pass and an on site day use permit that you can fill out and return when you are there. Loggy Bayou itself is a muddy flatwater paddle as seen in the pictures below. Upstream of the launch the river splits and I took the right-hand branch. This channel narrows quite a bit as you go up, and towards the dam things get shallow and weedy. After evaluating the options I turned around and headed back the same way I came. I think that perhaps the left hand channel would be easier to paddle up to the dam, but I didn’t take it very far. I did see an alligator up towards the dam so that was a nice surprise.
