McGee Creek State Park, Oklahoma

Kayak route taken on the west side of McGee Creek Lake/Reservoir in Oklahoma. The launch is in McGee Creek State Park, there is a nice big boat ramp there. You can paddle up to where Potapo (not Potato) Creek comes into the lake. Like the east side, the turnaround point here is all the sudden, very rocky, and you can’t go any further. The place is beautiful, very remote, and you don’t want to get into trouble out here. There are lots of trees in the water that can hang you up and high center on, and while this can be startling at first, it’s kind of interesting once you know what to expect. Cane Break Road leads down the central peninsula from the North (the white line going north to south in the above map). The road is very pretty but there is no lake access that I could find. It took me a five hours drive up and back from Dallas one day just to realize that, ugh.

Above: I think these are Bryozoa, they are yuggy, weird, and interesting.
