Pilot Grove Creek, Lake Lavon

The north end of Lake Lavon, between McKinney and Farmersville, splits into a west side and an east side. On the east side, off of Highway 380, is Twin Groves Park. From the park it is possible to paddle into the two ‘Grove’ creeks, Sister Grove to the left, and Pilot Grove to the right. Both creeks are pretty similar, muddy, isolated, away from it all, in the forested area above the lake. Both are good paddles and just a short distance from Dallas. The above trail route map shows the path taken from Twin Groves Park into Pilot Grove Creek. This route goes up a decent ways but at some point I was sick of going around logjams and crawling up the muddy banks of the creek and so I headed back, went under the 380 bridge, and ended up back at the park. Got some nice scenery pictures, and saw a few beavers.

Above: Wow.

Above: Is it Sister Grove or Pilot Grove, they look pretty similar.

Above: Saw quite a few beavers up the creek, this one sliding into the water.
