Sister Grove Creek, Lake Lavon

The north end of Lake Lavon, between McKinney and Farmersville, splits into a west side and an east side. On the east side, off of Highway 380, is Twin Groves Park. From the park it is possible to paddle into the two ‘Grove’ creeks, Sister Grove to the left, and Pilot Grove a bit further away to the right. Both creeks are pretty similar, muddy, isolated, and nestled in the forested area above the lake. Both are good paddles and an easy trip from DFW. The above map shows a route from Twin Groves Park into Sister Grove Creek. Really the only thing to decide is how far up to go, and that depends on how many log jams you care to deal with. This route didn’t go too far.
