Spring Bayou WMA A

The above map shows one of two routes I did at Spring Bayou WMA, about half hour southeast of Alexandria, Louisiana. The launch was at the end of Spring Bayou Road, at the Boggy Bayou Boat Ramp. There is a nice camping spot here as well. The above trip was a split out and back, first one way then another. It was summer, and when you put your hand in the water it was actually hot water. Maybe this is because Spring Bayou doesn’t have much flow in or out. The alligators I saw that afternoon were mostly on the shore in the shade (at least until I paddled by). Some areas of the bayou were impenetrable due to surface vegetation, so the route goes as far as it can on the channels that were open. It’s quite a nice place and next time I would like to go earlier in the season.
