Steinhagen, Martin Dies SP D

Steinhagen. Martin Dies State Park has two boat launches on the west side of the lake along Highway 190, one on each side of the road, and both are perfect for exploring the reservoir west side and nearby creeks. This particular route is a kind of catch-all that includes a bit of Wolf Creek, goes up to Magnolia Ridge Park, and then does a bit of Rush Creek. There is a TPWD paddling trail that actually goes behind the two launch sites but sometimes the salvinia makes for hard paddling. This trip was done in the drizzle and that means it was incredibly beautiful. Some of the best paddles ever are in cool weather and light rain (no lightning/no wind). The beginning of Wolf Creek is an especially great place, it feels like you are going back in time. And, there are big gators in both creeks. Very good paddle.
