Trinity River Bottom, Old River, The Cutoff, 1409 Launch

The paddle route above explores more of the Trinity River Bottom area near Houston. This trip is on the opposite side of the Trinity River compared to Lake Charlotte. It launches at the 1409 bridge over the Old River. It’s not a great site to launch, parking is a bit tight and trash is lying around, but it does get you into some different areas. The Old River soon enters The Cutoff, which is a channel that connects to the Trinity River itself. It’s a hard place to get a fix on the layout. However, it would be possible to launch at 1409, go out The Cutoff to the Trinity and even paddle to Lake Charlotte itself. Maybe another time. The particular route here is just an out and back. It does however take a detour to explore the north side of Little Caney Creek, and a detour to explore the south side of Little Caney Creek, where it enters Lost Lake. Excellent trip.
