Trinity River Bottom, Old River, The Cutoff, 1409 Launch
The kayak paddle route above explores some of the Trinity River Bottom area near Houston. This trip is on the opposite side of the Trinity River compared to Lake Charlotte. It launches at the 1409 bridge over the Old River. It’s not a great site to launch, parking is a bit tight and trash is lying around, but it does get into some different areas. The Old River soon hits The Cutoff, a channel that connects towards the east to the Trinity River itself. It’s a hard place to get a fix on the layout but it could be possible to launch at 1409, go out the cutoff, and reach Lake Charlotte on the other side. The route here is just an out and back on The Cutoff that takes a couple north-south detours to explore Little Caney Creek.
