Walnut Creek, Joe Pool Lake

This trip launches on Joe Pool Lake at Loyd Park in Grand Prairie, goes north and east to some huge power lines that cross the lake, then south/southwest to explore the shoreline, then up and back Walnut Creek. I think there is a pretty similar trail listed on the TPWD website. Loyd Park charges $20 bucks which, given 10 minutes unloading the boat and 10 minutes loading the boat, works out to a dollar a minute. The southern shore of the lake has some small inlets to explore which feel remote and are really quite pretty. Walnut Creek itself winds back and forth to the west and is wide and easy to paddle. Once you go under the 360 bridge the creek starts to narrow and that’s where I turned around for the return to the launch site.

Above: Perfect.
