White Rock Creek, Loop 12 Trinity River Put-In

It’s more usual to paddle White Rock Creek starting at White Rock Lake in Dallas and go upstream from there to Skillman or Greenville. Here though the launch is at the Loop 12 crossing of the Trinity River just south of downtown Dallas. The trail route map goes about a mile up the Trinity, then splits to take White Rock Creek. The map shows a couple of trips, one of which turned around at Highway 175 (yellow), the other turned around earlier (red). There will be some trash from upstream suburban areas, and its a bit muddy, but still it is interesting to paddle up into the ‘Great Trinity Forest’, one of the few isolated areas in DFW. There is a trailhead parking lot for the Trinity Forest Hiking trail right near the put in, and the Trinity River Audubon Center is a short distance further on Loop 12. Note that sometimes the boat launch is marked closed, and it always feels a bit sketchy.
