Atchafalaya, Bayou Benoit Launch

This kayak paddle trail starts at Bayou Benoit Landing just north of Lake Fausse Pointe State Park along the levee road. It’s an easy spot to find, just over the levee. I had planned to launch here on an earlier trip to the area but at the ramp there was a guy got off his ATV, walking around with a handgun, drinking, and incoherent. So I left. Here though I try again! The route has two parts really, the section going north enters some nice lake areas, and although filled with stumpy cypress left from old logging operations, they are still relatively pretty. This (north) side would be a good recreational kayak type of route and it’s close to the state park. If the water is high enough there is a lot to explore. After doing a loop there I went south along the bayou. This section had no particular purpose other than to see what there is to see, reach a junction of some channels, make a trip of it, and turn around. At the launch there is a sign saying there is a large and notable cypress tree somewhere, but I didn’t find it.
