Atchafalaya, Lake Fausse Pointe SP Louisiana B

This is another map of a kayak paddle route launching out of Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, located down Levee Road south of Henderson, Louisiana. The route explores the lake area to the west of the park, first going north to do a loop, then south to do a second loop. (I think) this body of water is outside the levees that contain the main Atchafalaya watershed. The day had big sky as the pictures show! And the dotted area on the northern loop (shown on the map) was one of the more scenic regions I have paddled in Atchafalaya. Here the cypress trees were large and the area more similar to the cypress swamps of northern Louisiana and less like the logged regrowth feel of much of Atchafalaya. I wish there were more areas like this. The route sticks to the shore because the wind was out of the east and I didn’t want to fight the wind. At the southern turnaround loop the shore was lined with houses, shacks, and shanties, a number of them occupied. And some spots were for sale. At the launch I talked to a guy in a lithium battery-powered kayak that he said had a range of 120 miles. Wow, nice.

Above: An invasive plant…elephant ear, aka wild taro. Can you eat the roots I wonder?

Above: Lake paddling is so much nicer with sky like this.
