Caddo K 805 WMA Launch

Kayak trail route map out at Caddo Lake, starting from the 805 WMA Launch. Been a while since I’ve been here, and the salvinia coverage seemed somewhat better (i.e. less). They say that’s due to recent cold winters and introduction of the Salvinia Weevil. Here’s hoping. Some areas are still covered with a combination of hyacinth, salvinia, and alligator weed but the density wasn’t too bad and paddling through was generally possible. Assuming the weevils are working, I wonder if they will have any additional effects, e.g. proliferation of other invasives, or eating native species. Sometimes release of X to control Y follows the pattern of ‘There was an old lady who swallowed a fly’. The paddle route here is a Figure 8, starting at the 805 put-in, through Back Lake into Clinton Lake, then south and west to Johnson’s Ranch Marina, then back up through Blind Slough, into Carter’s Chute back to Carter Lake and the launch site. Saw a ~5 foot alligator but couldn’t get a picture. Coming back there were several guys fishing Carter Lake in kayaks. Nice trip, about 20 miles, good scenery as always, not many people out.
