Corney Bayou, Hog Pen Landing to 550

Paddle route map just northwest of Lake D’Arbonne, starting at Hog Pen Landing and going west and north along Corney Bayou. The launch is down a few local roads and just 10 minutes from Lake D’Arbonne State Park. Each night at the park a group of raccoons invaded the camp, climbed the pole to the hanging trash bag, tore it open, and squabbled over the pickings.
The more typical Corney Bayou paddle starts at Highway 550 and goes north; there is a map and trip description for that paddle on another page. This route does the section below 550, almost down to the lake. And it was quite nice on an overcast rainy day as the pictures show! The launch has a self pay kiosk, $5, and they had the envelopes so no excuse. This is an easy flatwater paddle, very scenic, and the channel was, on this occasion, narrower than usual due to low water. Otherwise this stretch of the bayou would be fairly wide. A paddling trip in the rain is (sometimes) so nice. Like today.
