Fort Worth Nature Center Kayak Paddle A

It’s possible to see alligators kayaking at Caddo but in my experience it’s kind of hard, or chancy. So I was surprised when I first paddled the Fort Worth Nature Center on the west side of DFW to see so many here. There’s a lot. The Center is located between Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth on near Fort Worth. Connecting the two lakes and running through the refuge is the West Fork of the Trinity. There is an entry fee (including for dogs so be sure your dog remembers to take his/her debit card), and a couple boat launches. This route uses the launch at the east end of the Refuge near Greer Island. There is a variety of paddling types, up the creek paddling to the dam, exploration of the small grassy islands, or even paddling down to Lake Worth itself, depending on how far you want to go. On one occasion the West Fork was lined with guys fishing and there were dozens of fishing kayaks in the water, and I kind of wished I had picked a different day.
