Sea Rim State Park Kayak Paddle

kayak paddle route map Sea Rim State Park Texas www.SawdustRiver.com

Kayak paddle trail route at Sea Rim State Park. The Park is on the gulf coast of Texas a bit south and west of Port Arthur. There is a kayak launch on the north side, and there is an oddly shaped weeble wobble-like floating campsite that you can reserve for overnight. Once in a while someone is on it and its nice to say hi, but mostly I see birds, often pelicans, there. There is a TPWD paddle trail here, but the above route is longer and explores some different areas. The environment here is unique, you paddle (well, chop may be a better description since its so shallow) along narrow grassy channels, the sky is everywhere, and it smells ocean. This route goes down Tenmile Cut into the Dipping Vat Ponds, which is such a great name. I had a prior plan as to what the loop would be and it’s important to get it right. The clumps of grass in this area all look the same and if you don’t stay squared away it will be hard to figure out where you are. You can sometimes see alligators in Tenmile Cut, and if you want to see more, head down to McFaddin NWR just to the west, where they hang out. I need to go paddle this area again asap. Also note that a few miles away at Texas Point NWR there are also routes to paddle that are quite good.
