Sulphur River, Malden Lake Park, Wright Patman Lake B

Kayak paddle route trail map starting at the Malden Lake Park Launch at Wright Patman Lake, off of Highway 8, and going up and back the Sulphur River. This is the second trip (B) from this spot. Beautiful early morning launch for a fairly long out and back. Quite a few guys fishing today on the river, along with one otter. Nice scenery all the way, and cool temps. A bit over 4 and 1/2 hours of open flatwater paddling. A local guy at the ramp said he had never seen any alligators in years of fishing here. But its odd because the area seems suitable, and because there are many in the river below the dam. The land surrounding the Sulphur River, at least up to a point, is controlled by the Corps of Engineers, which may explain why the river is not lined with No Trespassing signs as might be expected. The upstream gage, Sulphur River at IH-30, was 4 cfs, the lake level at 100%.
