Sulphur River, TX, Hwy 67 Launch B

Kayak paddle route trail map starting at the Highway 67 Sulphur River Ramp west of Wright Patman Lake, going downstream for an out and back trip. Started early morning, cool weather, with mist rising from the water in the sunlight. Beautiful to paddle as the sun rises. Went as far down as I cared to, then paddled back to the launch. There were some boat launches at the turnaround point but a guy I talked to at the Hwy 67 put-in said they were all private, no access. No portages were needed for this paddle, the river is fairly wide at this launch point. Unlike the upstream regions which at low water have lots of tree debris in the river. There was no cell service pretty much all the way. The Sulphur River at I-30 was about 13 cfs this day, nothing really, flatwater both ways. Saw some deer swimming across the river but couldn’t get a picture. A great morning paddle.

Above: Steam rises off the river, fantastical.

Above: Wow!

Above: This pine tree is on the edge, about to fall. A metaphor for something, possibly, ugh.
