Above: Overview map of some kayak route paddle locations in the Atchafalaya Basin. This area lies between Lafayette and Baton Rouge, and just north of Morgan City, LA. The scale of the place is amazing. The Atchafalaya River flows out from a point north where the Red River meets the Mississippi River, a kind of release valve. Lots of areas here are nice but many areas are logged, canalized, private. Individual trip descriptions, pictures, maps are below. Click to expand map.
